MOTIVATE HONORS - Alana Garrett
As innovative justice curator, organizer and strategist, with over 7 years working in community Alana is passionate about justice, education and youth. Her career is fueled by community, arts & culture and politics. From reproductive justice to sex positivity to criminal justice reform she is an activist
Being an advocate for youth and mental health, she created a project, titled: Working through the illness to raise mental health awareness amongst the youth and young adults. she has decided to utilize her creativity to construct kits to help youth of all struggling with trauma and understanding their mental health. She is hoping to grow that project into a bigger program for youth and young adults in the county.
She was a community organizer and policy advocate for New Voices for Reproductive Justice, leading campaigns to eradicate injustices against Black women, femmes, and girls. Successfully she led This Black Body, Cleveland’s first Black Mama Bailout campaign, Defend Black Women March.
Along with her current position at New Voices, she is also a graduate of the NAACP Next Generation program and the Northeast Ohio Young Black Democrat’s. She has sats on the Cuyahoga County Suicide Coalition and the Community Problem-Oriented Policing Workgroup for the Community Police Commission and Board member of Rainbow and Babies Foundation Advisory Board.
Her professional affiliations include, sitting on the Board of Women Have Options Ohio & 12 Literary Arts. She serves on the Midtown Community Connections board. She also the chair for NAACP Cleveland Branch Environmental and Climate Justice. She is also the Ohio Co-Host for the Movement 4 Black Lives
